“Art of the pandemic” – The Telegraph
“Art for our times” – The Guardian
“An image of 2020” – BBC Breakfast
During the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic I reworked some of the Fitzwilliam Museum’s most famous Masterpieces by adding face masks which complimented their attire (or lack of with Titian’s Venus!) The series of images were made into a range of greetings cards to help support the museum whilst its doors were closed to the public. The images caught the attention of the media worldwide. Coverage ranged from the front page of the Telegraph and a feature on BBC Breakfast News as well as Vogue online to ANN News in Japan and CNN.
“The cleverness is that the art direction for the masks is consistent with the style of each painting,” a museum spokesperson tells BBC News.
The Masterpieces collection was shortlisted by the Association of Cultural Enterprises (ACE) for ‘Best Covid Product’.
