English Heritage x Alexandra Rose Illustration
This collection was inspired by a renewed fascination with the Regency era through period dramas and literature. We wanted to capture that sense of romance by creating our own love story between a courting couple. Their story is set against a backdrop of some of English Heritage’s Georgian properties and the lives of those who once inhabited them.
The history of Ranger’s House provided a rich source of inspiration. It was once home to the Duchess of Brunswick with her daughter Caroline the Princess of Wales residing next door at Montagu House. They were known for their glittering gatherings including the Princess’s Grand Fete of 1808 and received many royal and aristocratic visitors.
An illustrated collage forms the foundation of the designs, drawing on architectural and decorative details such as the elegant façade of Ranger’s House, ornate gilt frames from Wrest Park and elaborate stucco work from Kenwood House. The surrounding rose gardens inspired an added touch of romance through their delicate flora and fauna. Finally, the little accessories that would have enriched their lives; a fan, jewellery, pocket watch, books, feather quill and love letters complete the narrative and evoke the sense of a bygone age. Amongst these - the dainty heart pendant which symbolises the couple’s romance - is from Kenwood’s collection of bejewelled treasures.
The range consists of an A3 Art Print (as shown at the top of this page), fan, cosmetics bag, pocket mirror, notebooks, notecards and feather quill pen. It is available to purchase from English Heritage’s Online Shop as well as Ranger’s House, Wrest Park, Kenwood House and Marble Hill.
